Pottstown Area Police Athletic League (PAL)

In the early 1980s, a few key community leaders got together. Their hope was to connect the police and local businesses within Pottstown with the youth by providing athletic and mentoring programs.  The focus was to have the area's children, ages 4 to 18, involved in activities that were healthy and motivating.

On September 9, 1985 Pottstown PAL joined with National PAL and was registered as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization.  Recognition as a non-profit allows the organization to be exempt from IRS taxes and enables donations by individuals and businesses’ to be claimed as tax-deductions. The office moved several times before finding its current home at 146 King Street in Pottstown.

In 2010, Pottstown PAL opened its own outdoor Sports Complex, thanks to Waste Management, who agreed to rent PAL 26 acres to house its athletic programs. The outdoor Sports Complex is located at 1455 Chestnut Grove Road in Upper Pottsgrove.  This accomplishment has provided several of our programs a place to call home.  The Complex currently houses a Football, Baseball and Soccer field.  PAL also boasts a successful Dek Hockey program. This is currently offered at West Pottsgrove Elementary on a beautiful playing surface, complete with permanent boards. We also are indebted to the Pottstown School District, which allows us to utilize their Gym and Field House for Wrestling practices and meets.

Pottstown PAL operates under the direction of an Executive Director, who is governed by an Executive Board.  Our Executive Board Members come from various backgrounds and experience. Our organization reaches youth and families all over the Tri-County area  - Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Boyertown, Exeter, Phoenixville, Collegeville, Spring-Ford, Spring City, and more.

As an all-volunteer organization, we take considerable pride in what we have accomplished over the past 30 years.  We take heart in the fact that so many families continue to come back to our programs, not just to participate, but to volunteer as well.  There are currently over 100 volunteers that help us operate our programs.  We believe that through our efforts we will continue to provide a positive sporting influence for the youth of Pottstown and its surrounding communities.
